The World Canals Conference is returning to Rochester for a second time, the first time the organization has returned to a host city, officials formally announced Wednesday.
The 23rd annual event is Sept. 19 to 24, 2010. Rochester was first announced as the 2010 site in October 2007. It previously was host to the event in 2000, setting an attendance record that still stands, officials said.
“It’s all about ideas,” Thomas Grasso, chair of the World Canals Conference 2010 and director of the New York State Canal Society, said in a statement.
“The last conference really inspired us to move forward with many projects. We have a lot to show the world. This is a golden opportunity for us to display the successes we have achieved over the past 10 years.”
Some 14 countries have said they will send delegates, officials said.
