Rochester Institute of Technology received an award from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, along with a $500,000 grant, at an event held Monday on the Henrietta campus.
Barry Johnson, senior adviser and director of strategic initiatives for the federal agency, presented RIT with the 2009 EDA Excellence in Economic Development Award for University-led Economic Development. Johnson also presented RIT with a $500,000 grant to help boost the region’s global competitiveness.
The winners of awards represent the best and brightest in economic development methods and practices, federal officials said.
EDA is an agency within the Department of Commerce that partners with distressed communities throughout the United States to foster economic growth and job creation. Its mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness and preparing American regions for growth and success in the global economy.
