Carlos Carballada, Rochester’s commissioner of neighborhood and business development and before that a leader in the local banking community, has been selected Hispanic Business Person of the Year, the Rochester Hispanic Business Association announced Tuesday.
Carballada has been active in the local business community for 30 years, including top executive positions with M&T Bank Corp., Rochester Central Trust Co. and First National Bank of Rochester.
Mayor Robert Duffy named Carballada commissioner of the city’s economic development department after taking office in 2006.
“Carlos was not born in Rochester but made our town his home and has made significant contributions to our community and its future,” said Grace Tillinghast, association chairwoman, in a statement.
The association is affiliated with the Rochester Business Alliance Inc.
