The Center for Government Research Inc. has launched a Web tool that can be used to access information on the spending of state and local governments across the nation, the Rochester organization announced.
Govistics is available at www.govistics.com, CGR officials said Thursday. It includes information on 38,000 state, county, city, town and village governments nationwide.
“We’ve designed our tool to be user friendly, with a highly graphic interface, so that anyone, anywhere, at any time can quickly find out just how much their state or local government spends, what they spend it on and how that spending stacks up against peer governments,” said Joseph Stefko, director of public finance, in a statement.
CGR is offering a free version of the tool, Govistics Lite, and a paid version that is more detailed. The paid version is available for an introductory price of $4.49 per day, $14.99 for 31 days and $49.99 for 365 days, CGR officials said.
Govistics was designed using data from the U.S. Census of government data, Stefko said. CGR will be adding additional information, including data on spending by school districts.
CGR is a non-partisan, independent non-profit specializing in information management and implementation support for government.
