The dollhouse and Star Wars action figures are among the 12 nominees for induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame at the Strong.
The National Toy Hall of Fame, housed at the Strong National Museum of Play, will induct two of the 12 finalists into the hall at a ceremony Nov. 10, officials said. The other nominees are Dungeons & Dragons, Hot Wheels, Jenga, Pogo Stick, the puppet, R/C vehicles, Rubik’s Cube, Simon, Transformers and Twister.
The National Toy Hall of Fame receives thousands of nominations via mail and email annually and selects inductees based icon-status, longevity, innovation and the toy’s ability to foster learning, creativity or discovery through play.
Submissions are reviewed by an internal museum advisory committee comprised of curators, educators and historians which determines whether the toys meet the criteria for selection. A national selection committee then reviews the list of toy finalists and each committee member votes for his or her top toy picks for induction. Toys receiving the most votes are inducted.
To date, the 46 toys have made it into the National Toy Hall of Fame including checkers, the stick, the cardboard box and marbles.
