Klein Steel Service Inc. received the IndustryWeek Best Plants award this week, identifying it as one of the best manufacturing operations in North America.
Members of the Klein Steel team received the award at the annual awards ceremony held in Indianapolis Tuesday.
One of 10 award winners throughout North America, Klein Steel is the only winner from New York. It was the first time a metal service center has been named a winner in the 20-year history of the award, officials said. Other award winners included Lockheed Martin Corp. and Carrier Corp.
Todd Zyra, Klein Steel chief operating officer, said the award criteria covered more than three years of data concerning areas such as safety, accuracy, quality, on-time delivery and productivity.
“This award is a testimony to the hard work our team here at Klein Steel has put in over the past few years, and it also speaks to the strength of manufacturing in New York,” said John Batiste, Klein Steel president and CEO, in a statement.
