Bausch & Lomb Inc. has named a medical device and biotech veteran to head its California-based surgical division, company officials said Monday.
John Barr, 54, was named as global president of the eye-care company’s surgical division. He will oversee the company's ophthalmic surgical products, intraocular lenses and delivery systems.
Barr served for the past six years as president and CEO of AGA Medical Corp., a producer of devices to treat cardiovascular defects and peripheral artery disease that after completing an initial public offering was acquired by St. Jude Medical.
Previously, he served for eight years as president and chief operating officer of V.I. Technologies Inc., a Massachusetts pharmaceutical company that is developing oral drugs to treat HIV and other viral diseases.
Barr is based at the surgical division’s Aliso Viejo, Calif., headquarters. He reports to Bausch & Lomb CEO Brent Saunders.
