Veterans Outreach Center Inc. has selected a former military officer and Afghanistan veteran to serve as its next president and CEO, the organization said Friday.
Col. Gary Yaple was selected following a three-month national search. He takes over for James McDonough, who left the organization to serve on the New York State Health Foundation.
Yaple served for three years as chief of staff for the 42nd Infantry Division of the National Guard. During his 26-year military career, Yaple has served as deputy commander of combined joint task force Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service during Operation Enduring Freedom.
“For almost 40 years, our mission has been to provide the best in service to our community, and as a recent combat veteran Col. Yaple brings an intimate knowledge of the needs that face our returning veterans,” said Robert Janson, VOC chairman. “His wealth of leadership experience is a tremendous asset and will shape the future direction of this agency toward new heights of excellence.”
Yaple said serving veterans and their families will remain his and the organization’s top priority.
“I count myself as very fortunate to have been given this unique opportunity to serve our nation’s veterans who are the very men and women with whom I have so proudly served alongside throughout my career,” Yaple said.
Yaple is to begin his duties at VOC on July 2.
