The new Genesee Rowing Club boathouse was dedicated Monday at the confluence of the Genesee River and the Erie Canal.

The GRC, a private non-profit corporation, financed the construction and donated the boathouse to Monroe County. The rowing club will operate and maintain the facility, officials said.

“The Genesee Rowing Club boathouse is a wonderful asset to Genesee Valley Park and I cannot thank the GRC and its leadership enough for this generous contribution,” Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks said in a statement.

“It’s through collaborative partnerships that Monroe County is able to continue to actively engage park users and enhance the amenities that our part system offers nearly 744,000 residents.”

The GRC came to the county in 2008 to ask about building a boathouse to accommodate its masters rowing club, officials said. The boathouse and its docks can accommodate rowing programs from local high schools, colleges and universities.
