Rochester General Health System has named its chief financial officer as the new president of Rochester General Hospital. 

RGHS announced Robert Nesselbush’s appointment Tuesday as the hospital’s administrative chief some two weeks after its current president, Brian Jepson, announced his resignation. Jepson, who is stepping down to take a similar position with a hospital in his native state of Ohio, is slated to leave June 6.

“(Nesselbush) has played an instrumental role in our system’s growing success and progress in recent years,” RGHS CEO Mark Clement said.

A 19-year veteran of RGHS, Nesselbush began his career with the health system as director of financial reporting and accounting in 1993. He was named CFO in 2007.

Clement cited Nesselbush’s role as the chief shepherd of the health system’s recently launched $70 million electronic medical records system as one example of vital systemwide initiatives Nesselbush oversaw as CFO.
 
The switch from RGHS’ top finance officer to operational head of the system’s biggest component, the more than 500-bed Rochester General, comes as an array of payment reforms that will affect deeply how hospitals do business kick in, Nesselbush said.

“It’s a good time to bring a financial perspective to the hospital,” he said. “I’m looking forward to learning more about operations.”

Paula Tinch, vice president and controller/finance, was named to take over from Nesselbush as interim CFO. Tinch is a four-year veteran of the health system.

“(Tinch) has contributed directly to our strong year-over-year financial successes—making her well-prepared, and well-suited, for this interim role,” Clement said.
