Brighton-based A One Bus Inc. is among 26 bus operations shut down for endangering public safety, federal officials said Thursday.
The ruling comes after a 12-month investigation by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and is the largest safety crackdown in the agency’s history, officials said.
In addition, the administration ordered 10 individual bus company owners, managers and employees to cease passenger transportation operations, including selling bus tickets.
The 26 companies transported 1,800 passengers daily along Interstate 95 from New York to Florida.
Apex Bus Inc., I-95 Coach Inc. and New Century Travel Inc. are the three primary companies, officials said. They oversaw a network of other bus companies.
Apex operated two carriers in New York, under the names of Apex Bus NY Inc. and A One Bus, said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.
