LETTER TO THE EDITOR: 'Gee Wizz' has come a long way

Rochester Business Journal
June 8, 2012

Dear Editor:
Re: Dick Hirsch's column on Genesee & Wyoming Inc.'s Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad ("A profitable little railroad you've never heard of," RBJ, 6/1/12): I grew up in Retsof, and the roundhouse for the G&W (better know as the Gee Wizz) railroad was almost in our backyard. One of the trips it made was to bring waste salt to the salt dump, which was an exciting place to play with caves and "mountains" to climb. Legend had it that Mr. Fuller told his fellow railroad owners that "My line may not be as long as yours, but it is just as wide." It's come a long way since the late '40s.
