Stations win statewide broadcasting awards

Rochester radio and television stations captured eight awards Monday night at the New York State Broadcasters Association’s annual Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting.

WXXI Public Broadcasting Council was a big winner. The PBS affiliate’s radio station WXXI-AM 1370 won for “Outstanding Public Affairs Program or Series” and “Outstanding Feature Story.” In addition, WXXI-TV won for “Outstanding Individual Program or Series Designed for Children.”

WBGT-TV 18 won for “outstanding Local Sporting Event,” for its airing of 2011-2012 Section V Class A Hockey Championship, and “Outstanding Sportscast.”

WHEC-TV 10 won for “Outstanding Hard News Story.” WHAM-TV 13 won for “Outstanding Spot News.” WROC-TV 8 won for “Outstanding Commercial.”

The event was held at the Sagamore Resort Hotel in Bolton Landing, Warren County.
