Semrock Inc. is to undergo a $3.8 million expansion at its site in Gates; a move expected to create 21 jobs and retain 118 positions.
Semrock designs and manufactures spectrally complex optical filters.
Its parent company, Illinois-based IDEX Corp., approved the purchase of new optical thin-film hard-coating manufacturing technology to support business expansion into high-volume applications. The decision prompted Semrock, which was at full capacity, to lease space in an adjacent building for the expansion, officials said.
Empire State Development Corp. is providing a package to Semrock that contains $400,000 in Excelsior Tax Credits.
“The Finger Lakes Regional Council strategy document clearly identifies optics, photonics and imaging, as well as advanced manufacturing, as key industry sectors in our region,” said Joel Seligman, Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council co-chairman and president of University of Rochester, in a statement. “Semrock clearly fits those sectors and is worthy of state support that will assist it to remain here and create critical jobs.”
