Lumetrics to expand its service offerings with acquisition

Rochester Business Journal
July 11, 2012

Lumetrics Inc. has acquired assets of the former New Mexico-based WaveFront Sciences Co. LLC from Abbott Laboratories.

The deal allows Henrietta-based Lumetrics to expand its service offerings and boost sales by some 40 percent, company leaders said.

Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

WaveFront Sciences supplies sensing metrology. Its ClearWave and CrystalWave products are used in the ophthalmic industry for the production of contact lenses and intraocular lenses. Its CLAS-2D sensor monitors quality in laser light and has other applications. The sensor can measure, align, and direct laser light in areas ranging from microscopic optics to satellite communications.

“The WaveFront Sciences products are a perfect fit to our business,” said John Hart, Lumetrics CEO, in a statement.  “We share the same ophthalmic customer base, and this acquisition allows us to merge our technologies to provide a more feature-rich offering to solve customer problems that neither company could do on its own.”

Lumetrics is known for its OptiGauge system, which is designed to reduce production time and enhance quality for the manufacturers of medical devices, optics and industrial materials. The business has roughly 20 employees and expects to add up to eight workers over time as a result of the acquisition.
