Medina Hospital, union workers arrive at agreement

Rochester Business Journal
July 11, 2012

Union workers at Medina Memorial Hospital have called off a one-day strike planned for Friday.

The labor action was canceled after union and management negotiators arrived at an agreement following a marathon 14-hour session overseen by a federal mediator, union officials said Wednesday. The talks wrapped up at midnight on Tuesday.

The Service Employees International Union United Healthcare Workers East represents 325 licensed practical nurses, maintenance workers and patient care technicians at the 70-bed Orleans County hospital.

Details of the settlement would be withheld until after a union rank-and-file vote on the pact scheduled for next week, union officials said. The union and management had been at odds over salary and benefits including health care, education and training for the last six months.
