WHEC-TV 10 has selected a replacement for longtime broadcaster Rich Funke.
The station has reached an agreement with Don Hudson, KTVX-TV 4 in Salt Lake City, to join the local station as news anchor-reporter, said Derek Dalton, WHEC-TV vice president and general manager. Hudson is to join WHEC-TV in late September.
“Don will be Rich Funke's successor—while no one can fill Rich's shoes, I am confident that Don will be a great addition to our News10NBC team and to our Rochester community,” Dalton told the staff this week.
Funke, a 44-year veteran of Rochester news and a pioneer in local sports broadcasting, announced last month he would retire from WHEC-TV at the end of the year.
An Emmy Award-winning reporter, Hudson has had an extensive anchor and reporting career, which has taken him from Washington, D.C. to Salt Lake City. At KTVX-TV he has served as anchor and reporter for the weekday 5 p.m. newscast, anchor for weekday morning newscast and general assignment and special projects reporter since 2009, Dalton said.
