RGRTA to get federal funds for street conversions

The Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority is to get $562,000 in federal funding to help pay for the conversion of St. Paul Street and North Clinton Avenue to two-way streets.

The funding, from the Federal Transit Administration, will be used to convert the two roads between Main Street and the Inner Loop, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. said Monday.

The city of Rochester will match the $562,000 to cover the $1.1 million first phase of a $2.8 million conversion project that would change North Clinton and South Clinton, and St. Paul and South Avenue, from one-way to two-way, officials said.

The full conversion includes the reconfiguration of the South Avenue garage entrance and the I-490 interchange.
