Harris Corp.’s RF Communications business reported a drop in fourth-quarter sales but an increase in year-over-year operating income.
For the quarter, RF Communications reported sales of $584 million, compared with $628 million the prior year. Revenue from its tactical communications segment was $409 million, a decline of 13 percent compared with the prior year. Public safety and professional communications revenue was $175 million, up 12 percent.
Operating income was $196 million versus $191 million in the prior year.
Orders totaled $529 million, including $356 million in tactical communications and $173 million in public safety and professional communications.
The quarterly results were included in Florida-based Harris’ financial results. The company reported net income of $129.1 million, or $1.13 a share, compared with $133.5 million, or $1.06 a share, a year earlier. Sales were $1.44 billion, down from $1.52 billion the year before.
For fiscal 2012, RF Communications logged sales of $2.14 billion, down from $2.23 billion in 2011. Net income declined to nearly $704 million, from $787 million the year before.
