IEC Electronics Corp. reported increases in third-quarter sales and profit Tuesday, due in part to growth from recent acquisitions.

The Newark, Wayne County, firm reported net income of $2.2 million, or 22 cents a diluted share, versus net income of $1.3 million, or 13 cents a share, in the same period last year. Sales were $36 million, up from $34.6 million a year ago.

Chairman and CEO Barry Gilbert said he is pleased with the company’s operational results, as well as management’s ability over the past two years to integrate four acquired firms.

“Now it is time for us to continue moving forward and take some larger steps growing the company through acquisitions or starting new businesses to better support the markets we serve,” Gilbert said in a statement.

IEC ranked 40th on the most recent Rochester Business Journal list of private-sector employers, with 566 local workers.
