Gannett Co. Inc., owner of more than 80 newspapers, including the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and USA Today, has named a vice president of brand research and strategy.

Emma Gilding will help lead the company’s consumer, brand and market insights to drive growth of Gannett’s business, the company said. Gilding is the former president of In:site, a strategic advisory group for Omnicom Group Inc.

Gilding was named one of the top 100 business innovators by Time magazine in 2001.

“There’s a fundamental shift in the relationship between consumers and media today, and Gannett is leading the way in transforming how it serves the needs of consumers,” Gilding said in a statement.

Gilding is to work out of New York City and report to Maryam Banikarim, Gannett’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
