Rochester native Abby Wambach and the U.S. team won the gold medal Thursday afternoon in a match against Japan that started at 2:45 p.m. at London's Wembley Stadium. With an assist from Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd headed in the first goal at roughly 8 minutes to give Team USA an early 1-0 lead. Lloyd scored the team's second goal, as well, shortly into the second half. The final score was 2-1.
