Rochester Business Journal
August 20, 2012

Five Star Bank’s four newest branches opened Monday following their purchase from HSBC Bank USA N.A. on Friday.

The converted branches are on North Main Street in Albion, Orleans County, and in Elmira, Elmira Heights and Horseheads in Chemung County.

Five Star in June converted First Niagara Bank N.A. branches in Brockport, Medina in Orleans County, Batavia in Genesee County and in Waterloo, Seneca County.

Five Star is the bank subsidiary of Financial Institutions Inc., whose headquarters are in Warsaw, Wyoming County.

The conversions are the latest in a series involving five banks, triggered by the sale of 195 HSBC branches in Upstate New York and southern Connecticut to First Niagara.

KeyBank N.A. acquired 37 branches, 12 in the Rochester market. Community Bank N.A. is acquiring 19 HSBC branches, seven the local market.
