Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis visited Monroe Community College on Monday, touring the college’s Applied Technologies Center.
The center provides training for the automotive technology and precision and tooling machining fields, as well as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning careers.
MCC is the leader of a statewide consortium of schools that has received nearly $15 million in grants through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College to Career Training initiative.
The funding allows the consortium’s Training and Education in Advanced Manufacturing Educational Pathways Project to prepare dislocated workers and unemployed veterans for high-quality, high-wage jobs within the advanced manufacturing sector, MCC officials said.
Solis was scheduled to meet with Anne Kress, MCC president, and Nancy Zimpher, State University of New York chancellor.
