SentrySafe announced a realignment plan Thursday that includes spending some $10 million on capital investment at the firm’s East Rochester manufacturing operation over the next two to three years.
The investment will support growth and enhancements of its core product lines, company officials said. The nearly $10 million investment will focus on equipment enhancements, new product development and packaging.
The changes also mean SentrySafe now will produce all of its fire-resistant chests locally. Prior to the change, a small portion of some products were manufactured in Shanghai, China. Local employment will not be affected by the investment. The firm employs some 440 local workers.
“Our core products present the best opportunity for (SentrySafe) to continue to enhance our manufacturing operations in the U.S. and grow our business, right here in Rochester,” CEO James Brush said in a statement. “By removing long gun safes and cabinets from our product portfolio, we maintain our current employment at our headquarters in Rochester and can focus on future innovations in the products that built our more than 80-year-old business.”
The legal name of SentrySafe, which previously did business as Sentry Group, is John D. Brush & Co. Inc.
