RF Communications gets orders from Homeland Security

Harris Corp.’s RF Communications division in Rochester has received $7 million in orders to deliver public safety and tactical communications systems to the Department of Homeland Security and its component agencies, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The company will supply the Coast Guard with tactical radios installed across the Coast Guard fleet to provide communications with local, state and federal agencies, as well as the Department of Defense, the company said.

Separately, RF Communications also will provide the Federal Emergency Management Agency Center for Domestic Preparedness with a land mobile radio system. The center, located at Fort McClellan in Alabama, is charged with training first responders in recovery tactics for response to homeland security situations. The communications system will provide coverage across the campus, including in-building coverage, the company said.

The orders were awarded through a five-year, $3 billion contract the company previously announced.
