Green Bay firm acquires Label World

Chili’s Label World Inc. has been acquired by WS Packaging Group Inc., a Green Bay, Wisc.-based label manufacturer. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Label World, a full-service printer that was founded nearly three decades ago, employs some 50 people at its Jet View Drive facility. Company president and CEO John McDermott said he expects WS Packaging to retain all of its employees.

McDermott, who has been with Label World some seven years, will assume the role of general manager.

“Label World has built its business with an ongoing commitment to the highest standards of customer service, helping its customers succeed by delivering labeling and packaging solutions for brand owners,” WS Packaging CEO Rex Lane said, in a statement. “From delivering outstanding print quality to engaging in ongoing improvements in its operations, Label World has an established lean culture that’s enabled it to become a market innovator in terms of quality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.”

Label World was founded by Bob and Janet Allardice in 1985. Its core business is pressure-sensitive labels. In 2011 the Tag and Label Manufacturer’s Institute honored the company with its Environmental Leadership Award.

In 2006 Label World was acquired by private-equity firm Kamylon Capital LLC in Boston.

“Although they have 20 or 21 plants around the country this was a particular area of the country where they were not well-represented and the market was underserved,” McDermott said. “This is a good fit for both of us and we look forward to growing our place in the market as a result of this.”

McDermott said when Label World was looking for potential future partners, one of the primary concerns was partnering with a company that was committed to the local community.

“I think it’s a good thing for Rochester because we’ve secured a partner that is as committed to this area as we are,” he added.
