City of Rochester OKed for land bank

Rochester Business Journal
February 28, 2013

The city of Rochester has been approved to create a non-profit land bank corporation to facilitate the return of vacant, abandoned and tax-delinquent properties to its tax rolls.

The city announced its application this month. It was approved by the Empire State Development Corp.

“A land bank in Rochester is another tool we can use to strengthen our neighborhoods across the city,” Mayor Thomas Richards said in a statement Wednesday.

“(It) will help us turn blighted properties into owner-occupied homes that, in turn, promote neighborhood and community revitalization.”

The land bank will operate in conjunction with the Home Rochester program administered by the Greater Rochester Housing Partnership Inc.
