The company’s Rochester Area Reliability Project for western Monroe County and parts of the city of Rochester is scheduled to begin early next year and take two years to complete.

“We are pleased that the joint proposal ensures continued reliability of power supply to Rochester while protecting the natural and human environment by minimizing adverse environmental impacts,” PSC chairman Garry Brown said in a statement.

The project calls for construction of 21 miles of new 115-kilovolt transmission lines, reconstruction of two miles of an existing 115-kilovolt line, a new 1.9 mile 345-kilovolt line, and a new 345/115-kilovolt substation, officials said.

It also will improve existing substations in the towns of Chili, Gates and Henrietta, and in Rochester, officials said. The work includes system upgrades in existing control buildings.
