A new study shows that dating among people ages 50 and older is booming, and Rochester is one of the hotspots for it.
OurTime.com, the largest online dating website for single people above the age of 49, released data this week outlining its users dating habits. OurTime is owned by InterActiveCorp, the same company that owns Match.com, About.com, Vimeo and a number of other web-based entities.
Among the data reported by OurTime was a ranking of the top 10 “Fastest Growing Cities for 50+ Dating.” Rochester ranked fourth on the list behind Kansas City, San Diego and Tuscon, Ariz.
OurTime based its rankings on data gathered from its website, which has seen a 66 percent jump in membership during the last two years, and its sister site Match.com. Rochester was the only city in New York State to place in the top 10 on OurTime’s list, which was rounded out by St. Louis, Austin, Cincinnati, San Jose, Minneapolis and Bridgeport, Conn.
“This is a vibrant, growing community of singles that’s taking the dating scene by storm, and rightfully so,” said Dr. Terri Orbuch, relationship expert for OurTime, in a statement. “By and large this age group is happier, more secure and even feeling sexier than their younger counterparts. They also are a better judge of the type of person who will make them happy, so it’s the perfect stage of life to be looking for love.”
