Parker to retire as RBA president, CEO

Sandra Parker plans to retire as president and CEO of the Rochester Business Alliance Inc. at the end of the year.

Parker has been the RBA's top executive since becoming CEO in January 2005, after serving as president and chief operating officer upon its formation two years earlier.

"She has been an amazing partner for county government," Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks said. "Sandy has raised the profile of women in leadership in our area. She's been a very strong and visible leader in the community."

Joel Seligman, University of Rochester resident and Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council co-chairman, said Parker has become “an enormously consequential civic leader.”

"She has strengthened our city's ability to make a difference in Albany and in attracting new enterprise by effectively identifying and trying to resolve some of our core challenges, bringing together at the RBA and elsewhere urban leaders to coalesce around a common agenda and tirelessly working to enhance key efforts," he said in a statement.

Parker, who married Rochester business executive John Summers last October, is retiring to spend more time traveling and with family, and because the RBA is in good shape financially and in pursuing its mission, she said.

"I've had some personal changes in my life," she said. "And I'm pleased with where the RBA is now, both from a fiscal standpoint and also from where it is in the local community (and) where it is in the state.”

A committee headed by Edward Pettinella, president and CEO of Home Properties Inc., has begun a search to replace Parker.
