TSA expedited screening program coming to Rochester airport

An expedited screening program is coming to the Greater Rochester International Airport, representatives of the Transportation Security Administration announced Wednesday.

Rochester is among 60 airports that will have pre-check lanes available by the end of the year, increasing the number of airports involved to 100. The TSA pre-screening program began in October 2011.

The screening program allows pre-approved airline travelers to pass through security checkpoints without having to remove shoes, light outerwear or belts, TSA representatives said.

Pre-approved travelers also can keep laptop computers in cases, and compliant liquids and gels in a carry-on bag, representatives said.

Passengers eligible for pre-screening include U.S. citizens of frequent traveler programs, members of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Trusted Traveler program, and Canadian citizens who are members of Custom and Border Protection’s Nexus program.
