State GOP calls for investigation of Duffy

The Republican Party of New York State wants an investigation into whether Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy violated state ethics laws by interviewing for a position with the Rochester Business Alliance Inc., the state GOP said Monday.

Duffy has been talked about as a successor to RBA president and CEO Sandra Parker. He and Gov. Andrew Cuomo have declined to say whether Duffy will be on the ticket when Cuomo runs for re-election in 2014.

“New Yorkers have a right to know how their public officials are interacting with special interests,” state GOP chairman Edward Cox said in a statement.

“If Lt. Gov. Duffy indeed failed to disclose the nature of his relationship with the Rochester Business Alliance to Gov. Cuomo, that would represent a major violation of state ethics laws.”

Cox called for the Moreland Act Commission to investigate.

“The only way to determine whether or not the state’s second-ranking public official committed an ethics violation is for the Moreland Commission to conduct a thorough investigation,” he said. “I urge them to do so immediately.”

Parker last week said she would delay her retirement until sometime next year.

Representatives of Duffy in Albany did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
