Harris Corp.’s Rochester-based RF Communications division on Tuesday reported a drop in first-quarter sales, but a slight increase in operating income.
The local operation reported revenue of $423 million, down from $445 million. Revenue from its tactical communications operation was $305 million, down 1 percent, and the public safety segment revenue was $118 million, dropped of 14 percent.
Operating income was $135 million, up from $134 million.
Segment orders totaled $348 million, including $225 million in tactical communications. Public safety orders were $123 million, increasing 12 percent.
The results were part of Florida-based Harris’ financial results. The parent company reported income from continuing operations of $128 million, or $1.18 a diluted share, compared with $129 million, or $1.14 a diluted share, a year ago. The company logged sales of $1.19 billion, down from $1.26 billion.
The firm reiterated its fiscal 2014 guidance for income from continuing operations of $4.65 to $4.85 a diluted share and for revenue declining 1 to 3 percent.
