Unity Health System nursing home to get $5.8M upgrade

State officials have green-lighted a $5.8 million upgrade to Unity Health System’s Edna Tina Wilson Living Center, Unity officials said.

The health system plans renovations to roughly 29,000 square feet of common space at the 120-bed Greece nursing home. Upgrades are to include creation of more private space for residents and their families.

Changes planned for the 20-year old home’s kitchen and dining areas are intended to give residents more opportunities to take part in food preparation and meal planning and make the areas “the main focus of the community, creating a more home like atmosphere,” officials said.

Also planned are changes to the facility’s acoustics and lighting meant to better tailor the environment to residents with dementia.

The project is slated to begin in January and wrap up in the spring of 2015.
