Developer Thomas Wilmot Sr. has taken the wraps off plans to build a Finger Lakes region casino.

The $350 million project, proposed for the town of Tyre near Thruway exit 41 in Seneca County, would include a casino, hotel and spa, as well as dining and entertainment. Wilmot said the facility could draw more than 9,000 daily visitors, or more than 3.3 million annually, and have a $50 million annual payroll.

Wilmorite Corp. unveiled the plans for the Wilmot Casino & Resort at a Tyre town meeting Wednesday night. (View rendering.)

Wilmot, who has been chairman of family-owned Wilmorite since 1980, said in a statement that the project “will create approximately 1,800 permanent jobs and 1,200 construction jobs. … It will also bring millions of tourists to this beautiful region, helping countless local businesses.”

With the recently approved state constitutional amendment, up to seven new casinos can be built in New York. Wilmot said his firm will apply for one of the four casino licenses to be awarded in the upstate region.
