Batiste among speakers at annual leaders retreat

Rochester Business Journal
December 30, 2013

Retired Army Maj. Gen. John Batiste will speak about hubris in government, drawing on his personal experiences, as part of Leadership Coaching Inc.’s annual Leaders Retreat Jan. 7.

The event, titled “Arrogance and Humility in Leadership,” is slated for 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Monroe Golf Club.

John Engels, Leadership Coaching president, said more than 130 business leaders, as well as local and state officials, have registered. Engels is inviting top elected officials to fill the 10 pro-bono slots he is holding for this retreat in response to what he sees as “seemingly self-serving behavior on the part of elected government leaders.”

Batiste, now president and CEO of Buffalo Amory LLC, is a three-star general who resigned from the military after a 31-year career over former President George W. Bush’s war strategy in Iraq.

In addition to Batiste, veterinarian Kate Hurley, a leader in the field of animal shelter medicine and director at the University of California at Davis’ Koret Shelter Medicine Program, is also scheduled to speak.
