Bob Johnson Chevrolet acquires two dealerships

Rochester Business Journal
January 7, 2014

Bob Johnson Chevrolet has acquired Ideal Nissan and Ideal Chevrolet.

Financial and other details of the purchase, which has been completed, were not disclosed. Bob Johnson owner Gregory Stahl and Ideal owner Angelo Ingrassia were not available for comment midday Tuesday, but Ingrassia told the Rochester Business Journal in an emailed statement that the deal would enable him to focus on his Buffalo store, Joe Cecconi’s Chrysler Complex.

Ideal Chevrolet was founded after Ingrassia purchased the Geneseo dealership in 2004 and built a new facility to house the franchise in Avon. In 2005 he acquired a Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep dealership that had been in business in Niagara Falls since 1968.

In 2007 he purchased Henderson Ford Lincoln’s Nissan franchise and moved it from Greece to Irondequoit. The franchise moved to its current location in Greece in 2011.

In a 2011 interview with the Rochester Business Journal, Ingrassia declined to discuss revenues for his dealerships but said the three stores annually sold some 3,000 new and used vehicles. At the time the company employed nearly 200 people.

Bob Johnson Chevrolet, one of the Rochester Top 100 fastest-growing private companies, has 200 employees at its three locations and sold some 5,500 new and used vehicles in 2012. The company was founded locally by Robert Johnson in 1985 when he moved his first dealership from Buffalo to Rochester.

Stahl joined the company in 1988 and the company moved to its current location on West Ridge Road in 1999. Stahl purchased the dealership in 2001.
