2013 sees yearly rise in area car sales

Sales of new and used vehicles in the Rochester area were brisk last year, outpacing 2012 sales by more than 6 percent, the Rochester Automobile Dealers’ Association Inc. reported.

Monroe County auto dealers sold 68,533 cars and trucks in 2013, up from 64,574 in 2012, Some 45,406 new vehicles were sold last year, compared with 40,966 in 2012, while area dealers sold 23,127 used vehicles, down from 23,608 in 2012.

In December, area car dealers sold 3,358 new vehicles, down nearly 4 percent from 3,494 in November, but up more than 15 percent from 2,919 a year ago. Some 1,570 used vehicles were sold in Monroe County last month, down more than 9 percent from 1,727 in November, but up nearly 4 percent from 1,514 in December 2012.

New and used car sales typically decline from November to December here, RADA historical data shows.

Auto dealers sold 4,928 new and used vehicles in Monroe County in December, down nearly 6 percent from 5,221 in November, but up 11 percent from 4,433 a year ago.
