Warren selects Ciminelli as chief of police

Rochester’s interim Police Chief Michael Ciminelli has been selected chief of police by Mayor Lovely Warren, officials announced Friday.

Ciminelli was named as interim chief on Jan. 1, following the retirement of James Sheppard.

Ciminelli “is a consummate public servant,” Warren said in a statement Friday.
“When I asked Chief Ciminelli to take on the duties of interim chief, I knew I was placing my confidence in a solid professional with a proven track record who understands the rhythm of our streets,” Warren said.

“I am 100 percent certain that he is the best person to lead our police department at this time, and he has my unqualified support.”
