The Rochester Engineering Society has selected recipients for annual awards that honor local engineers.
The Engineer of the Year Award and the Kate Gleason Young Engineer of the Year Award recognize engineers for outstanding professional achievements, community service and active promotion of engineering excellence and leadership in the Rochester area.
The 2013 Engineer of the Year is Maureen Valentine. She is associate dean and professor in the College of Applied Science at Rochester Institute of Technology.
The 2013 Kate Gleason Young Engineer of the Year is Courtney Reich, operations manager for NOHMs Technologies Inc. at Trison Business Solutions Inc.
Four Engineers of Distinction also have been named: Allen Casey, president, M/E Engineering P.C.; Walter Cooper, Regent emeritus, New York State Board of Regents, and a former Eastman Kodak Co. scientist; Jay Friedrich Kunzler, president, Kunzler Biomedical LLC, and previously distinguished research fellow and director of the department of polymer chemistry, Bausch & Lomb Inc.; and Diane Trentini, vice president, marketing and sales, Optimation Technology Inc.
This year’s finalists for Kate Gleason Young Engineer of the Year are John Papponetti, vice president and bridge project manager, LaBella Associates P.C.; and Stephen Percassi Jr., who recently joined Bergmann Associates as a project manager, moving from Erdman Anthony.
The award recipients are to be honored at the Engineering Society’s 111th annual gala on April 20 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Eight Beat Measure, a male a cappella group from RIT, is to provide entertainment, and Jennifer Johnson, anchor/reporter with WHAM-TV 13, will be the emcee. In addition, scholarships will be presented to local high school and college students.
