YellowJacket Racing acquires the Rochester Marathon

YellowJacket Racing & Fitness Inc. has acquired ownership of the Rochester Marathon from the Arthritis Foundation of Upstate New York for an undisclosed amount.

The race, which includes a marathon, a marathon relay and a half-marathon, has been managed by the non-profit since 2005. This year’s race is set for Sept. 21.

“Our team is excited for the opportunity to build on the success of the Rochester Marathon,’’ said Ellen Brenner-Boutillier, who co-owns YellowJacket Racing and its sister company, Fleet Feet Sports Inc., with her husband, David Boutillier. “It is the only marathon with its start and finish line in downtown Rochester, bringing thousands of runners, spectators and volunteers into the city’s center.

“We will be applying our expertise in race production to make the race an even greater asset to the area,’’ she said in a statement.

The marathon will continue to operate as a fundraiser for a local charity. Groups will have the option of adopting sections of the race to share in proceeds.

Last year the Rochester Marathon had more than 600 finishers for the marathon, 186 marathon relay teams, and 2,000 finishers for the half-marathon.
