Home Leasing gets $3.6M to redevelop Eastman Dental Dispensary

Rochester-based Home Leasing LLC is getting $3.6 million in state funding to redevelop the historic Eastman Dental Dispensary into 57 apartments, officials announced Wednesday.

The funds come through New York State Homes and Community Renewal.

The dispensary was built in 1917 by Eastman Kodak Co. founder George Eastman. It was vacated in 1978 when a new dental school was built at the University of Rochester.

It has been vacant since 1984, documents from the Landmark Society of Western New York Inc. show.

The Landmark Society lists the 800 East Main Street building among five irreplaceable historic resources in danger and in need of reinvestment.

It is listed in the State and National Register of Historic Places.
