Ovitz Corp., a startup in the field portable ophthalmic diagnostic devices, is the winner of the 2014 Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest.

The announcement was made Friday at the 6th annual Celebration of Entrepreneurship Luncheon held at the Hyatt Regency Rochester. The event was attended by some 300 people.

Ovitz, led by CEO Felix Kim, focuses on commercializing technology developed at University of Rochester’s Flaum Eye Institute. Its product, the EyeProfiler, is a portable vision diagnosing instrument that uses wavefront sensor technology to measure the eye in seconds.

The five finalists—Advanced Quantum Imaging, IMSWorkX Inc., Ovitz, RWP Energy Inc. and Turbett Surgical LLC—each presented their business plans to the panel of judges. The companies emerged from a pool of 22 applicants. Profiles of the five finalists can be viewed here.

The second place winner was Advanced Quantum Imaging. The third place winner was RWP Energy.

“Rochester has a wealth of intellectual capital and innovation potential, as evidenced by all of our finalists,” said James Senall, president, of High Tech Rochester Inc.

The panel of judges based its decision on factors that include the probability of success of the business plan coupled with the size of its potential economic impact.
