Bishop Kearney buys its building, surrounding land for $3.4 million

Bishop Kearney High School has purchased the property at 125 Kings Highway in Irondequoit that served as the school's home for more than 50 years, announcing the acquisition Tuesday.

The school acquired the building and 42 acres of surrounding land from The Christian Brothers Institute and the Christian Brothers of Ireland for a price of $3.4 million.

The transaction was facilitated by Thomas Golisano, a longtime Bishop Kearney benefactor who partnered with the high school in 2007 to establish the College Prep Plus Curriculum and provide each incoming student with a free laptop.

“For 52 years, Bishop Kearney High School has been preparing students for success in college and beyond, and we are now in much better position to secure our destiny,” said Tom O’Neil, Bishop Kearney president. “This purchase will allow us to serve many more generations to come, and we can’t say enough to express our gratitude to Mr. Golisano for his unwavering support.”

School officials said they are now forming committees to investigate potential improvements to the property, including a number of green initiatives and athletic facilities upgrades.
