Nguyen gets maximum sentence in gun purchase

State Supreme Court Justice Thomas Moran on Monday sentenced Dawn Nguyen to the maximum sentence of 1 1/3 years to 4 years in prison for lying on a firearms transaction form in 2010 when she purchased a shotgun and a semiautomatic rifle.

Prosecutors say the weapons were bought for William Spengler Jr., who used them to kill two West Webster firefighters who were responding to a fire call on Lake Road on Christmas Eve 2012, RBJ news partner NewsChannel 10 reported.

Spengler was a convicted felon barred from owning guns.

West Webster firefighters Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka were killed. Firefighters Ted Scardino and Joseph Hofstetter were injured.
