O’Connell Electric Co. Inc. has been awarded two contracts totaling $16 million for upgrades to the New York Power Authority’s transmission system.

The Victor, Ontario County, company will get $5.2 million for site preparation work for two new transformers at the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project substation in Massena, NYPA officials announced Thursday.

O’Connell will get $10.8 million to demolish transmission equipment at the Robert Moses Switchyard in Massena and install 16 power circuit breakers and a capacitor bank, officials said.

The power authority’s board of trustees approved the contracts Thursday.

The board also approved a contract of up to $5 million with Greenman-Pederson Inc. in Albany for inspection and consulting services related to painting and other coatings on transmission towers throughout the state.
