Iberdrola S.A., whose Iberdrola USA Inc.’s operational headquarters are in Rochester, will receive 1 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas annually from a Houston-based energy company for 20 years as part of a nearly $5.6 million contract, officials said Monday.

Iberdrola is to receive the LNG from a subsidiary of Cheniere Energy Inc., beginning in 2019. The fuel primarily will go to customers in the United Kingdom and Spain, officials said.

Iberdrola S.A. supplied gas to 3.6 million customers, including 600,000 in the United States, as of the end of March, the statement said.

Iberdrola USA includes Rochester Gas and Electric Corp., Binghamton-based New York State Electric & Gas Corp. and Gloucester, Maine-based Central Maine Power.

Its corporate offices are in Maine.
