Federal grants totaling nearly $2.9 million will be used to refurbish a taxiway and its lighting system at the Greater Rochester International Airport, and another $1.8 million will be divvyed up among three airports in the Finger Lakes region, officials announced late this week.

The funding for the Rochester airport includes nearly $2 million to improve paving, markings, drainage, de-icing collection and associated electrical work along 250,000 feet of pavement on Taxiway A, officials said Thursday.

The airport is earmarked for $900,000 to rehabilitate the taxiway’s lighting system.

Dansville Airport in southern Livingston County will get nearly $1.1 million for runway, taxiway and apron repairs, and $36,000 to buy the rights to nearby properties for tree trimming to make takeoffs and landings safer, officials announced Friday.

Canandaigua Airport in Ontario County is to get $292,500 to buy snow removal equipment.

The Penn Yan Airport in Yates County will get $201,330 to conduct a pavement study for infrastructure upgrades, and $198,000 to buy equipment for snow removal, officials said.

The funding for the four airports comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
