Foundation offers grants for small non-profits

The Greater Rochester Health Foundation is offering a new series of Community Health Grants aimed at helping small non-profits kick off health care initiatives.

Ranging $5,000 to $50,000, Community Health Grant dollars primarily are meant to provide startup money for short-term projects or to help finance pilot projects, President and CEO John Urban said. But the foundation would under some circumstances consider requests for help with program-related facility repairs, he added.

The Community Health Grant program “acknowledges that there are many organizations doing good work who might not qualify for our larger, longer-term, outcome-focused Opportunity Grants,” GRHF chairman Essie Calhoun-McDavid said.

GRHF plans to hand out $150,000 to $300,000 in the Community Health Grant program this year.

It will accept applications in two rounds ending July 15 and Sept. 15. Non-profits based in Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, Seneca and Yates counties can apply.

Further Community Health Grant information is posted on the foundation’s website, www.thegrhf.org.
